THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE FEELING
THE GUT–BRAIN
CONNECTION.
There’s a whole conversation happening between your gut and your brain. We think it’s worth getting curious about.
GUT INSTINCT
Two parts. One conversation.
The gut–brain axis is the name scientists give to the two-way communication system linking our digestive system and brain. It involves the nervous system, hormones, immune signals and communities of microbes living in our gut.
That means signals travel both ways: the brain can influence how the gut functions, and activity in the gut can influence signals reaching the brain. Researchers are learning more about how these systems work together.
The neural connection
The vagus nerve is one important communication route between the digestive tract and the brain. It forms part of a wider network that helps coordinate digestion and other bodily functions.
More than nerves
Immune pathways, hormones and substances associated with gut microbes all feature in scientific research into the gut–brain axis. It’s a rich, developing field, with plenty still to discover.
So, where does Gut Instinct fit in?
This fascinating connection is our inspiration. We want to make food and drink that tastes genuinely good and brings thoughtful nutrition into everyday routines — starting with soda, and with more to come.
As our products develop, we’ll share the full ingredient and nutrition details. The emerging science deserves clarity, and the drinks deserve to be enjoyed for their flavour too.
